VINE is a new domestic violence hotline

Domestic violence can be defined as emotional, physical, verbal, or sexual abuse. For one out of four women, intimate partner violence and abuse is a reality they suffer during their lifetime.

Based on reports from 10 countries, between 55 to 95 percent of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted non-governmental organizations, shelters, or the police for help.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and VINE can help individuals stay informed to help them work towards breaking this cycle of abuse.

According to the Idaho Sheriffs’ Assocation and Idaho Supreme Court VINE stands for, “Victim information and notification everyday.”

Idaho VINE service provides access to information and notifications for offender custody status and court hearings.

VINE is a free, confidential public service that is available 24 hours a day, and 365-days a year.

According to the Idaho State Police statistics, 5,715 reports of domestic violence were in Idaho during 2011 which is an average of 15 each day.

The information available through VINE strives to potentially help victims plan for their safety in an informed manner.

For more information please call 1-866-9VINE-ID to register for notifications, or visit their website at www.vinelink.com to register or search offenders and their courtcases.
