Career services workshop helps students achieve dreams

North Idaho College collaborated with IdahoGOES to put on a College to Career Showcase in the upper half of the SUB Wednesday.

This event was a way for students of NIC, regional high schools, and others not currently enrolled in college to know their career options and have the ability to talk to a professional in their interest in hopes of launching their career.

“The point of this event was sort of a marketing technique to expose students to more opportunity in the field they wanted to go into,” said Gail Laferriere, career services. “We want our students to know they have the ability to reach for the stars.”

At the event there were 75 different volunteered professionals for students to talk to. Whether it was finance, education, art, Business, Science or even Human Services, there was something there for every major.

“This was an opportunity for students to talk to as many professionals as they wish all in one setting,” said Laferriere. “When this was done in the past, students could really see themselves achieving higher goals.”

Other than career services, experts from four-year colleges, such as Lewis-Clark State, University of Idaho, and Boise State University, were ready to give students an idea of what a four-year college would be like after NIC.

“You have dreams and we can help you achieve them. We will put you in direct contact of professionals and industry leaders that will tell you that your career is closer than you think. Learn how you can make your dreams a reality,” said Laferriere.

IdahoGOES will be presenting another event called “College Info Night” February 5 in the NIC Edminster Union Building. At this event attendees can meet representatives from graduate and undergraduate institutions to discuss admission, financial aid, and more.
