Annual Day of Service coordinator seeks volunteers

The eighth annual Day of Service is an event where students can gather together and make difference on campus and in the community.
Kyle Johann, coordinator for Campus Life programs, said the Day of Service is not designed as a day to just offer time to help; instead, it’s an educational program that gives students the chance to learn about environmental impact.
“We educate people how we can become better stewards of our environment,” he said. “People can feel connected to the community and learn through service.”
Johann hopes this focus will help students “commit to participating” by giving back regularly.
This year, coordinators have also teamed up with local organizations including the Human Rights Education Institute, Gathering Gardens and Shared Harvest Community Gardens. Service volunteers can expect to do a range of environmental work at one of these locations or on campus. Projects will include clean up, planting new plants, and with sufficient volunteers, making blankets to donate to Union Gospel Mission.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate and can register online at CardinalSync. Friends and family outside of the NIC community can join with special accommodations that can be made through Kyle Johann.
Volunteers are still needed for the event occurring on Oct. 6 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Those who attend will meet at the SUB before being transported to various locations around Coeur d’Alene.

The event is free and includes transportation to service locations, lunch and a T-shirt.
