Student Nicolette White is on a winning streak here during her first semester at NIC.
“I won two raffle prizes tonight and I won the Instax Polaroid Camera a couple weeks back,” White said during the Molstead’s “Night at the Library” event on Wednesday. “If I win the grand prize tonight, I think I’m going to combust!”
“Night at the Library” is an event hosted by Molstead twice every semester during the week leading to midterms and finals. It’s an opportunity for students to come together to both relax and study with their peers. It’s collaboration between the library, ASNIC, I.T., the Writing Center, Math Education Center, and several other departments.
“I wanted to see what ‘Night at the Library’ was all about. I’ve been trying to do more things here and figure out where everything is,” NIC student Jason Garcia said. “I’m enjoying it.”

Library tables are usually lined with representatives from resources, tutors from each department are available, a meal is catered by NIC, and the raffle giveaways are every half-hour. These events give students plenty of reasons to attend, for some it’s the free food.
“I really love how every time I come here, I get a free oatmeal raisin cookie. Those are my favorite,” engineering student Aspen Borntrager said. “And I get to sit down with all of my friends and study.”

NIC student Selah Salstrom attended “Night at the Library” a couple of times last year and was looking forward to spending time with her friends again. She was pleasantly surprised when she won one of the two grand prizes.
“It was cool. It’s one of those things that you don’t think is going to happen to you,” Salstrom said.
Wednesday’s raffle prizes included multiple $50 Amazon gift cards, a Nintendo Switch and a dinner-and-a-movie gift basket provided by the NIC Foundation, as well as plenty of NIC “swag-bags” donated by the NIC Bookstore.
