Career workshop held

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber Education Committee hosted “Be Prepared to Get a Job,” a “speed interviewing” style workshop targeted at teaching job search tips as well as interview techniques.

Participants were first tested in a practice interview with one of over 30 professionals who volunteered at the event.

After the participants had the option of attending a one of six specialized sessions. Each session was aimed towards improving an area in which partakers may not be proficient.

The workshop aimed at giving participants individual help with their interview and job-finding skills, or “soft skills,” those capabilities that are necessary for job hunting success but aren’t as clearly defined as years of experience, per se.

The six sessions after the initial mock interview included resume assistance, computer skills, dressing for success, community resources,  and Idaho career information and services (ICI) from the Idaho Department of Labor.                                                       The ICI section can provide employment information, job descriptions, employer outlook and current openings. The ICI also boasts one of the largest scholarship databases in the nation.
