NIC volleyball sweeps two conference opponents at home

The North Idaho College volleyball team picked up two conference wins at home last week, sweeping Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday and Utah State University-Eastern Saturday. The Lady Cardinals beat Colorado Northwestern 25-11, 25-12 and 25-16 and defeated Eastern Utah 25-20 in straight sets.

It was “Dig Pink Night” Thursday night against Colorado Northwestern in which all donations at the entrance to the gym benefitted the Dig Pink Side-Out Foundation.

Brittany Aldridge had six kills on .667 hitting percentage and Britney Chilcott had five kills on .714 hitting. Russia Robinson contributed 15 digs.

On Saturday against the Lady Golden Eagles, NIC’s Larissa Claassen and Anyssa Matheson led their team with nine kills.

Matheson credited freshman setter Maddi Seidl, who had 33 assists, for some of her success.

“Maddi is an amazing setter,” Matheson said. “She clicks really well with every single one of us I think.”

Leeta Grap added eight kills, seven aces and 11 digs for the Lady Cardinals.

“They’re not anywhere close as good as we are when we play the level we can play at,” NIC head coach Miles Kydd said. “But if we don’t, we could be close, so that’s what I am always fearful of.”

16th-ranked NIC 12-8 (5-2) hits the road for a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference games. It plays Friday against sixth-ranked Salt Lake Community College and Saturday against 18th-ranked Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

Salt Lake beat the Lady Cardinals 3-1 Oct. 5 in Coeur d’Alene and NIC beat Snow College in five sets at home Oct. 3.
