NIC Hosts Free Thanksgiving Meal

Published on

‘Tis the season of Thanksgiving at North Idaho College this weekend.

ASNIC hosted a Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, giving students and community members the opportunity to enjoy holiday favorites such as turkey, potatoes, casseroles, desserts and more at no cost.

This is the first year NIC has hosted a free Thanksgiving dinner for the public. ASNIC senator Jeremiah Brands, who founded the event as part of a community project, said the idea for the event was to create the opportunity for students to become involved in their community and help feed people in need.

“If one person shows up and gets fed, that would make me happy,” Brands said.

In fact, 234 guests attended the event, including Jessica Pleger, a community member who brought her two children along to enjoy the meal.

“It was great,” Pleger said. “Friendly staff, friendly service; we enjoyed ourselves. We appreciate the service [ASNIC] gave us.”

“I’m just really grateful that we could do that for the community,” ASNIC senator Elsa Goodsen said. “ASNIC is here […] we care about the students, and we want them to know that they can come talk to us at any time.”
