Four players finished with double-digit points including Alex Carlton, Keara Simpson, Alivia Williams and Heidi Sellman. Carlton led the Cards in points with 17, and shot three of five from downtown to improve her league-leading three-point percentage to 48.6 percent.

“She has played really well and just keeps getting better all the time,” head coach Chris Carlson said. “We’re a tough guard on the inside and to have Sydnie [Peterson] out there, and [Zosha Krupa], [Alivia Williams] and now Alex [Carlton] knocking down threes like that, it makes us better.”

Down 24-14 with eight minutes left in the second quarter, NIC rallied behind strong performances from Sellman and Carlton, who finished the quarter with 19 of the team’s 24 points on eight of 10 shooting to take a 38-33 lead.

Once NIC took the lead in the second quarter, they never looked back despite a strong effort from CBC star Alexis Castro, who poured in 38 points in the contest.

Next up for the sixth-ranked Cards is a game in Spokane to take on the Sasquatch (15-4, 4-3) on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. before returning home to host Yakima Valley (11-8, 2-5) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
