ASNIC hosts Free Movie Night for NIC students

ASNIC hosted a free movie night at the Hayden Cinemas for NIC students in January.

Savanna Storro, ASNIC senator of Student life, said the movie night was a way to, “help put on more events and have the students more involved in the school.” She also says that ASNIC does plan on hosting more events like the movie night throughout the semester. Storro states, “We’re trying to figure out if we want to do this monthly or maybe have more fun events.” Though they might not all be movie related, such as skating and bowling.

89 students participated in the movie night on Jan. 24. Previously, ASNIC had attempted to hold a family movie night in the SUB but it had been unsuccessful, so they tried to pick a place that was close by for students living in the resident halls and that had more options for movies.

Storro said that part of why they planned out the event was to let NIC students experience college in the best ways.

“To advertise this, [we put it] on Cardinal Sync, and we have sandwich boards that we put outside every building that you can read front and back, and we had a big banner poster in the SUB, and for those who leave in the residence halls, we had flyers, as well as text messages sent out through the resident hall and cardinal sync. The only thing is that the people who get those text messages may have to sign up and put their info into Cardinal Sync.”

The process to get into the movies was simple; walk into the theater and follow the rope sanctions to the ASNIC tables, give the ASNIC members the student I.D. which was swiped to show who went to the movie, and continue to follow the ropes to the counter where a Hayden Discount worker gave tickets after being told which movie each student was going to.

Storro is a student that lives in the res. hall and can relate to the struggles that most of those students go through, so her and the rest of ASNIC’s members are trying to plan events that most students could enjoy that wasn’t too far away, especially if you live on campus or nearby.

Any other ideas for student activities can be brought to the attention of ASNIC through email or at an ASNIC meeting.
