Women’s basketball dominates Blue Mountain

NIC Women’s basketball easily handled Blue Mountain in a 78-43 blowout victory Saturday afternoon.

Rilee Mangun scored 10 points in the victory. Five Cardinal players, Mangun, Cheyenne Green, Alex Carlton, Halle Eborall and Anna Schrade all scored double-digit points in the game, which was the most players in double-figures in a game for NIC this season.

The 35 point victory was the largest margin of victory for the Cards this season, but also came against a struggling 2-14 Blue Mountain squad.

The game had the look of blow out late in the first quarter when NIC turned a 13-11 lead into a 21-11 lead in two minutes to end quarter. The Cards then quickly scored 26 points in the second quarter, their suffocating defense forced 10 turnovers and held the Timberwolves to just five points. NIC then took a commanding 47-16 lead into halftime and never looked back en route to the dominating 78-43 victory.

Leading the way offensively for the Cards was Anna Schrade with 19 points on 8-9 shooting while coming up with a team high eight rebounds. Cheyenne Green came off the bench to put up 14 points and grab 5 rebounds, and do-it-all guard Halle Eborall had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Up next for the Cards (3-2, 9-7) is a game at Columbia Basin (2-3, 5-12) Monday Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. The Cards then return home to play Spokane (2-4, 9-6) Wednesday Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
