NIC’s President search continues

The Board of Trustees updated the state of the search for a new president at Wednesday’s meeting.

Current interim president Dr Michael Sebaaly, is the second interim president at NIC since the termination of Dr. Rick MacLennan. Former VP of Instructions Dr Lita Burns was the acting interim before the board voted in interim president Sebaaly.

The president search began Dec 15 after the board voted for the administration to sign a contract with an academic search for a president.

Chairman Todd Banducci and Trustee Ken Howard are on the president’s search committee. Their goal is to establish structure for the search, the necessary qualifications and a profile for the next president.

The committee attempted to create categories for representation, for example, making sure that individuals from the business and medical communities are represented. Trustee Howard said that agreeing on the categories and identifying qualifications have slowed the process down in successfully selecting candidates.

“Given our history on this board, it is not surprising to suspect a lot of one-one votes, and when there is, nothing gets done.”

Trustee Howard made a motion to authorize and establish constituency groups to appoint their own representatives for the president’s search committee.

Trustees Christie Woods and Howard voted aye, while trustee Greg Mckenzie and Chairman Banducci voted nay, the motion failed because of a two-to-two vote.

Updates on the matter will be provided as information is received.
