CNN Whistleblower Cary Poarch speaks at event for NIC students

Students and community members alike gathered Tuesday night to hear speaker Cary Poarch talk about. The event was held off campus at Lyfe Coffee and Public House.

Poarch shared his testimony about working as technician contractor at CNN and his undercover work for Project Veritas, an activist media group dedicated to exposing corruption. He then opened the floor to questions from the audience.

“It’s not politics that motivates me, it’s basically me wanting news to be what they used to be: news, and not a infotainment or a game show,” Poarch said. “CNN reports it to be facts first and that’s clearly not the case.”

Poarch secretly recorded hundreds of hours of conversations with employees at the network. Working with Project Veritas, he exposed internal communications indicating bias against former U.S. President Donald Trump in their programming.

Several NIC students were present at the event, which was hosted by Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Graphic Design major Sarah Gephart attended after hearing of the event through friends.

“I came to absorb and support,” Sarah Gephart said. “It would be helpful for people to be more aware”

NIC’s TPUSA chapter is currently seeking club status after being inactive the past few years. Now that they’ve found an advisor, representatives from TPUSA intend to appear at the Intra Club Council (ICC) meeting November 7th to secure designation as an ASNIC club.

“Turning Point USA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk,” according to their website. “The organization’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government”.

“It’s good to learn what’s going on in politics in America,” said Les Trick, an NIC student present at the event.
