Fellowship of Christian Athletes: NIC’s New Club

Last month, on September 22nd, 2023, NIC’s FCA club had its first “huddle.” Attendees were NIC athletes predominantly from the wrestling and softball teams.

FCA, or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is an international nonprofit organization that functions through clubs like NIC’s to minister to athletes from youth to professional levels.

Madelynne Hommel, a sophomore softball player, said the FCA club provides a place for athletes to “come together, and basically learn to compete for Christ and compete as Christians, while being in an environment where we can relate to one another.”

Freshman softball player Faith Nichols said it’s been a good opportunity to get to know her teammates on a deeper level. “It’s good to have a place to come and decompress at the end of the week, especially after hard weeks of practice,” Nichols, 18, said.

The theme of the Sept. 13th, 2023 huddle was a “cereal bar,” where attendees ate cereal.

Hommel said FCA is a “come-as-you-are kind of place,” and invites others to come. “Even if you’re not sure if you believe in God, we’d love to have you out here and talk with you,” she said.

Information on the FCA club is available from club founder Lane Reardon at their Instagram page, @nic.fca.
