Slam poets personify prose

Like the explosion of a new star in space, “The Junkyard Ghost Revival” left its audience in awe of the poets’ mastery of the power in and of words.

On Sept. 23, ASNIC brought another amazing and thought-provoking show at 7 p.m. And one of ASNIC’s own got his poetry premier up on the stage.

Nik Malen, 19, who introduced Daniel Kinno last month, returned to the stage — but not to announce the anticipated arrival of “The Junkyard Ghost Revival” group, but to announce that he would be performing.

His head nearly grazing the ceiling, Malen stood tall, adjusted the mic, greeted the crowd and begun the flow of words titled “Are you Still Hungry?.”

When he was finished, he thanked the audience through their applause and introduced a slam poetry group native to Spokane.

Each of the three members represented a style of poetry: rap, iambic pentameter and an almost avant garde.
