Faculty gets advice on how to budget their money properly

A financial wellness program began Sept. 6 in NIC’s Molstead library and was open to faculty members only.

For staff who have burned holes in their pockets, or those who just need advice on how to budget money, future sessions may prove beneficial.

It should be kept in mind, though, that this course is not being offered free of charge.

The materials received as part of enrollment to this class will cost more then $159.

Sandra Jacquot, vice president of coordination, said that NIC is offering this course to all faculty for a reduced fee of $49.95.

She was asked how she felt about charging those prices for a program for money management.

“The $159 is for miscellaneous materials that someone would need for this class, but the cost is really only $49.95.

It is actually a great deal since that price is 25 percent less than it would be to take this class elsewhere,” she said.

This is just like any other regular class at NIC, even though it’s offered to staff only. It is part of a nationwide program.

Dave Ramsey, nationally known financial coach with his own website and radio broacasts, “spoke” for this program.

He offers an hour-and-a half DVD presentation in which he teaches his grandparent lessons and values on handling money.

Over the course of his program, he will be teaching twelve different lessons on how to manage your money, how to do a budget and how to handle things like bankruptcy.

The Financial Peace University, a group led by Ramsey to help bring “financial peace” to more people, acts as a personal money management class.

Research shows it has helped more than a million families how to better handle their money to maximize their hard earned income.

Class is held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The program, also known as Wellness Your  Way, is offered through Human Resources.

One perk is that all employees who successfully complete this course will earn $100 in incentives toward their health reimbursement account.

A health reimbursement account is basically a health insurance supplement program offered through NIC.

It could prove essential for someone with high medical bills or for people who are feeling the pain of the one-to-two thousand dollar NIC health insurance deductible.

Jacquot is the contact person for people interested in this program and all of the benefits that it offers.
