NIC has recently begun searching for funding to complete the final leg of the education corridor.
With the completion of construction phases 1A and 1B, NIC will now begin to focus on the “Joint-Use” building that will be shared by University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark, and NIC.
Ron Dorn, NIC’s vice president for resource management, said the joint-use building would be a focal point for all three schools.
Currently, however, planning for the building has halted due to lack of funds.
According to Dorn The 45,000 square foot building is estimated to cost 12 million, with eight million of which the schools are hoping to be received from the state.
The three institutions will pay for the remaining four million, though they have not yet decided how exactly they’ll split the cost.
“The state is in favor of the schools cooperating, it’s just a matter of allocating the funds,” Dorn said.
The three presidents from the schools will be giving a presentation to the state this October and according to Dorn they should know by January the fate of the project.
