North Idaho College has a new Interim Dean of Health Professions and Nursing.
Christy Doyle officially took over the position on September 4.
A former Spokane resident of 23 years, Doyle has history working as Dean of Health and Environmental Sciences as well as Director for Workforce Education and Development at Spokane Community College.
Doyle said she was excited when she learned about the interim position at NIC.
“I wanted to learn a new state system, a new college system,” said Doyle, who said her interest stemmed from a professional standpoint.
Doyle also commented on her appreciation for President Dunlap’s leadership style.
“He has a solid foundation and is known as a man of integrity, honesty, and transparency—I had a desire to work under that style of leadership,” Doyle said.
On a more personal note, Doyle said that her husband works for Rathdrum’s Lakeland school district, and that she’s always wanted to live in, and be a part of, a small community because of its tight-knit connection.
Doyle will fill the position for a year.
As Interim, Doyle said she plans to follow the vision set by the president and staff of NIC.
“My background is in new program development,” Doyle said. “Health care is a huge growing industry cluster right now and I would love to see some growth in that area.”
After a meeting with Kootenai Health, Doyle mentioned that there may be possibilities of expanding occupational areas in medical assistance, the pharmaceutical technologies program, or even starting a search technologies program.
“Until we do a data analysis to see what the community’s needs are,” said Doyle. “The growth will be driven by the community and rural counties that we serve, as well as the students’ needs.”
Doyle is replacing Dr. Lita Burns, who was promoted the position of Vice President for Instruction in August.
