NIC Denounces Racism in Coeur d’Alene

Coeur d’Alene has made the news for racist remarks made towards the University of Utah Women’s Basketball team. The incident occurred in downtown Cd’A on Thursday evening, according to the Coeur d’Alene Press.

In the wake of a loss to Gonzaga in the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament, head coach Lynne Roberts spoke about the incident.

“Our team hotel was in Coeur d’Alene, and we had several instances of some kind of racial hate crimes,” said Roberts. “Incredibly upsetting for all of us.”

NIC released a statement this afternoon:

The North Idaho College community was deeply saddened to learn of the racially motivated harassment experienced last week in Coeur d’Alene by college students visiting our city.

North Idaho College unequivocally stands against hate and racism and strongly condemns the hateful actions directed toward those students. No one should ever be subjected to bigotry and hatred. No student’s experience should ever be marred by hostility and intimidation.

“We stand by and support the college student-athletes, coaches, and support staff affected by this unacceptable incident.

“We stand with our city leaders in denouncing all forms of racism.
