NIC receives scholarship money from local charity

Local charity bestowed money to NIC for scholarships.
This year the Kootenai Charities presented the North Idaho College President Joe Dunlap and NIC Foundation Executive Director Rayelle Anderson with a $1,000 gift to support NIC scholarship students.
This brings the total gifts to NIC contributed by Kootenai Charities to $18,000.
Every year the Kootenai Charities, Inc. organizes the Demolition Derby at the Kootenai County Fair during  August, and charges five dollars for grandstand seats. The derby proceeds are then gifted to charities throughout Kootenai County.
The criteria for these scholarships are: You must be a Kootenai County high school graduate, a second semester student at NIC, and a student that has a financial need.
The students goals must be learning, and personal improvement with the hopes of staying in Kootenai County after graduation. One scholarship goes to an academic student and one goes to professional technical student.
“There’s not necessarily a minimum GPA, but 2.00’s are always a minimum GPA on scholarships; and then a minimum of 6 credits, and then those students are selected via the NIC scholarship committee.” NIC Foundation Development Coordinator, Pam Noah, said.
80 Percent of the NIC student population qualify for student aid. The NIC Foundation has raised a record breaking $704,237 this 2011-2012 academic year this translates to almost 800 students, which is approximately ten percent of the North Idaho student population.
