What Actors, Vagabonds, and Such are up to

The Drama Club, also known as “The Actors, Vagabonds, and Such” club of NIC is looking forward to a very busy semester this Spring. Three major events will be heading their agenda: a Variety Show, ‘The Laramie Project’ play revisited, and a One-Act Play Festival.

The Variety Show will consist of student poetry, monologues, scenes, a friendly sing-off of sorts, and much more entertainment. The club will be accepting donations of $5 to help fund their tour to Boise for the American College Theater Festival. The event will be held on February 6^th in the lower SUB level at 7:30 p.m.

Following this on February 7^th will be auditions for the Laramie Project Revisited. Though it’s not a club event–it’s hosted by the theater department–the club expects many members to play a part. Theater instructor Joe Jacoby expects this play to raise some local controversy—however, not likely to the same degree that the first showing had, at which the Westboro Baptist Church made an appearance in CDA to protest. The play is slated for a premier on April 17th.

Featuring in late April or early May will be a one-act play festival in which student-written plays will be showing, including: Love’s Literature by Nathan Hersey, and Happy by Dan Sinensky. The festival expects to confirm one or two more plays for the event.

Of other potential events being hosted, the club will participate in the Footsteps Project, and vice president Diana Smith seemed to hint that there was another event to expect, but wouldn’t elaborate further.
