8th1998 – The first female ice hockey game in Olympic history was played. Finland beat Sweden 6-0.
11th1951 – Joe DiMaggio (New York Yankees) announced his retirement from the MLB DiMaggio only played for the Yankees during his 13-year career.
13th1966 – The rights to the first four Super Bowls were sold to CBS and NBC for total of $9.5 million.
17th2000 – Terrell Owens (San Francisco 49ers) caught an NFL -record 20 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears.
19th1917 – The first games of the new NHLwere played. Five teams made up the league: Toronto Arenas, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, the Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Wanderers.
