NIC breezes past Wenatchee Valley

The second-ranked Cards looked to be in complete control during their commanding win at home over Wenatchee Valley Wednesday night.

Hannah McPhetridge blocks the ball to score the match-winning point

Kayla Neumann lead the team to a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 victory with 12 kills and 10 digs despite playing with a quad injury.

“It’s still bothering her a little bit,” Assistant Coach Robin Reese said. “She’s playing with some pain still, it’s getting better every single day, so it’s nice to see her at the tail end of that injury.”

Health has been an issue for the Cards this year, they lost Haylee Templeton to injury earlier this season and recently lost Hope Deleon for the season to an ACL injury. Kynzey Mitzel had four digs and four assists in relief of the injured Deleon

“Hope [Deleon] had surgery yesterday so we are definitely going to miss her,” Reese said. “But Kynzey [Mitzel] has stepped into that role and she gets better and better in every practice.”

NIC, currently ranked fourth in the east, returns home to play Big Bend Wednesday, October 24.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
