Outdoor Pursuits operates in the presence of COVID-19

With the start of a new semester comes new opportunities, and change. When it comes to enjoying the outdoors of Coeur d’Alene, Outdoor Pursuits (OP) has many options for the outdoor adventurer. Even with the presence of  COVID-19, OP is open to the public and NIC students. OP is located on the south side of the McLain Hall and managed by Jacob Rothrock, coordinator for OP, and Terry Brinton, assistant coordinator.

Outdoor Pursuits is a program where people are able to rent equipment to engage in outdoor activities. Brinton said they are mostly known for the large off-campus trips they offer with the possibility of going out of state. However, this semester, due to the presence of COVID-19, OP is unable to host those trips at this time, but Brinton said they are hoping to see improvements the following season.

The bike shop is open free to NIC students. Email Terry.Brinton@nic.edu for an appointment.

Aside from renting equipment, OP also offers advice and tips for personal outdoor adventures.

“We really thrive on introducing a student to something that then becomes a big passion of theirs,” Brinton said.

Sunspot, the beach rental portion of OP, is located at Yap-Keehn-Um beach and open June 1 through Labor Day seven days a week.

OP has seasonal internships that train people  how to be certified guides on land or sea.  The program trains the interns in outdoor leadership as well as working at the OP office.

For further information or equipment rental pricing go to the OP website, email Jacob.Rothrock@nic.edu, or call the OP office 208-769-7809.
