Interview with President MacLennan

NIC’s President Rick MacLennan gives his word on the state of his employment. When asked about his thoughts behind the Board of Trustees evaluating his contract, he said “there have been some well documented issues of contention between the [board’s] chair, [the] board, and myself that have arisen.” 

“You’ve got a Board and there’s a lot of disagreement, right now and some pretty contentious issues” he said, “and this wouldn’t be the first group to not [have] the best forms of communication and resolving conflict.” Continuing on he said, “Sometimes [it’s] a real challenge for them to communicate effectively as five individuals toward one purpose, and when you’re involved in conflict as we are now, that gets even more difficult.”  

President MacLennan also explains the relationship the president and the board share’s,and he said “ ideally, the role with the President and the Board of Trustees is one of a partnership in a very collaborative role,” he continues, “so that there’s a mutual support of the President with the Board and the Board with the President, so that they’re driving the institution forward.”
