The Idaho State Board of Education today appointed three new trustees to serve on the North Idaho College (NIC) Board of Trustees, filling vacancies caused by resignations in recent days and earlier this year from the five-member board. The appointments were announced this afternoon during a special State Board meeting on the NIC campus in Coeur d’Alene. The new NIC trustees are:
- David Wold, MD, Coeur d’Alene – NIC Trustee Zone 1
- John Goedde, Coeur d’Alene – NIC Trustee Zone 2
- Pete Brochet, Hauser – NIC Trustee Zone 5
Wold, Goedde and Broschet were chosen from a list of 8 finalists interviewed yesterday by State Board President Kurt Liebich, Vice President Dr. Linda Clark, and Secretary Dr. David Hill. The new trustees will join Trustees Todd Banducci (Zone 3) and Greg McKenzie (Zone 4).
“The decisions we’ve made in appointing these three trustees, will allow the NIC Board to function through the November election,” State Board President Kurt Liebich said. “Ultimately, the citizens of Northern Idaho will have the opportunity to elect the trustees that they believe are best positioned to move this college forward.”
NIC’s accreditor, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) issued a warning in early April stating that the College was out of compliance with accreditation eligibility requirements related to governance, governing board and institutional integrity. NWCCU’s requirements for NIC included immediately returning to a five member board of trustees to oversee the college.
“Our intent was to put a board in place that will deal with the recommendations of the accreditation report and to preserve a very strong institution that has served Idaho for many years,” Liebich said.
In all, 37 people applied for the vacant NIC trustee positions.
