Dining Services set to be adequately staffed after Labor Day

Employment at Dining services are set to be “up to par” after Labor Day, said General Manager Kris Raasch.

For the first few weeks of the semester, NIC Dining Services struggled to fill positions. This is a recurring problem during the first few weeks of each school year, because Dining Services partially rely on student employment. According to Raasch, most students who come to NIC don’t tend to search for work until after the school year begins. Consequently, Dining Services have to work around being understaffed until student applications come in.

During the mandatory meeting for Residence Hall residents on Aug. 20, Raasch stated that many of the employees working in the dining hall were working ten hour shifts or more during the first week in order to supply the necessary meals for NIC students.

In that same meeting, Raasch also stressed the importance for students to utilize their meal plans. Most meal plans offer students a certain number of board meals a week. These board meals are not refunded if they are not used, so students who don’t utilize their meal plans may lose money.

Dining Services is still hiring. Students who are interested can apply online through Sodexo’s new website. Employment in Dining Services offer unique benefits such as schedule flexibility, meal discounts, and possibly a future career within Sodexo.
