All Ages Welcome?

What was an upcoming event that was to be put on by the Gender-Sexuality Alliance caused quite the stir online.  The issue at hand?  The fact that, in all caps, the admission age was stated as “ALL”.

The GSA intended on putting on their (mostly) yearly drag queen show on the 28th of October.  The flyers and advertisement for this show caused so much ruckus that the GSA was forced to cancel it.  The “Hallowqueens Drag Show” was planned for Friday the 28th of October.  The controversy that reared its head was not as to the type of show being put on  (though plenty have been quick to point out that such an event does not belong on a college campus), but as to the ages being admitted: “ALL”.

There have been several people who have been quick to point out that such an event is inappropriate for children, who are included under “ALL ages”.  Several commentators have voiced their frustration at NIC in near scathing posts on both the official post about the now cancelled event, and on third party publications which reported on the event.

“This is no different then having the girls at State Line come and perform on campus. What do these shows have to do with higher education? Why would a college want to sponsor these events? Why would North Idaho College want to be tied to events like these. I’m not even adding in that they are welcoming people of “ALL Ages”. The fact that NIC wants to be tied to Pedophilia is beyond my comprehension.”

“Why are all ages welcome at a Halloween Drag Show at North Idaho College? This is WRONG!

Where is the balance at NIC? There is a Gay Straight Alliance but no Young Republicans or Turning Point USA chapter.

There are still LAWS AGAINST INDECENCY especially regarding minors.

Do you support indecency and accosting children? If so , WHY?

Are you in support of grooming innocent children?? Whats wrong with you?? Our society is sick with social ills and you want to enable that more?? Do you really want to see our college and community turn into a dumpster?

We as a community will continue to stand against this debased darkness so please do not be cowards and cave to these pressures or allow yourselves to be “purchased” by this dark movement.

Consider making a stand for what is good, inspiring, uplifting, moral, right and edifying to our children.

Thank You!”

Okay so this might be an outlandish opinion here but I feel compelled to make it. THIS IS A SCHOOL! A LEARNING INSTITUTION! WHO IS LEARNING HERE? CUZ WHAT I SEE IS A TON OF POLITICAL INFIGHTING AND PROGRESSIVE SOCIAL WARRIOR BS! What if everyone took all this energy for everything that ISNT education and simply funneled it into their degrees?!?!?!? It’s exhausting! College is about bettering your future, not getting caught up in social causes….GET TO CLASS!

Few voices of support of the event were shown, with the only possible approval of the event by community members and students appearing to be shown in Emoji form on the initial post/s.

The GSA decided to cancel the event early on Friday, in response to the moral outrage of community members.  While researching this further, it appears as though they have put on similar shows in the past, such as in 2021, with the same “All ages welcome” tag.

Each semester when this event is put on (typically in both the fall and spring semesters respectively – though this sometimes is not always a given), there is almost always a counterprotest.  As to the validity of the counterprotest or where The Sentinel as a publication stands on the issue, I shall not say, though I agree with the counterprotestors and moral mob.  School is a place of learning, not whatever this is becoming.

Note to Readers: The nature of this event is controversial.  While writing this post, we had to switch gears, as it was cancelled towards completion of this article.  Any views that might be expressed in this article are the views of Managing Editor Chance Bond, and do not represent the views of North Idaho College, other staff at The Sentinel, or Students, which includes the GSA.
