Regional High School Students to Perform at NIC Choral Kaleidoscope

The North Idaho College Music Department will perform the Choral Kaleidoscope concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on NIC’s Coeur d’Alene Campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

This concert is the third annual high school invitational choir event held at North Idaho College. High schools in the area are invited to send their best singing ensembles to participate in a non-adjudicated performance event to kick off the school year.

The Choral Kaleidoscope concert has a patriotic theme and opens with three selections sung by the NIC Cardinal Chorale directed by NIC Adjunct Professor of Music, Stan McDaniel. Buryl Red’s “America the Beautiful” will be followed by Ed Lojeski’s jazz-tinged setting of “Amazing Grace” and Glenn Burleigh’s gospel anthem “Order My Steps.”

Lake City High School Select Choir, Navy Blues Jazz Choir and Chamber Choirs, all directed by D. Brittany Pfundheller, are set to perform. Also included is the choir of Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, led by Carrington Rinehart, and the Coeur d’Alene High School Choir under the direction of Alexandra Walker.

Other high school choirs performing include the Kellogg High School Concert Choir and Select Choir under the direction of Adam Ream, the Timberlake High School Concert Choir led by Katie Eppenstein, and the Lakeland High School A Cappella Choir directed by Mark Sescilla.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for high school choirs to hear what other choirs are doing and for the Coeur d’Alene community to experience the abundant musical talent in our public schools,” McDaniel said.

This year, the Cardinal Chorale is joined on the stage by all participating singers at the end of the concert to sing “A Parting Blessing” by J. Jerome Williams, a powerful setting of an old Irish prayer.
