The Purple Cobras celebrate their win of the 2024 NIC Dodgeball Tournament.
On September 18th, four teams of NIC students got ready for a battle of balls in NIC’s Annual Dodgeball Tournament. The Amigos, Free Agents, RMPD, and the Purple Cobras played against each other in double elimination rounds until only two teams remained.
After many furious games the Purple Cobras faced off with the Free Agents for the finale that had everyone jumping. The entire glass wall of the adjoining gym filled with spectators, pounding their fists and cheering until the game ended in victory for the Purple Cobras, who remain the undefeated champions for two years in a row now.
The small team consists of Noah Poe-hatten, Chandler Loveless, Porter Craig, and Ethan Boulton, with coaches Forest Howell and Ray Ray Griffin, all members of the college’s wrestling team as well. In fact, the team stated that they had used dodgeball practice as a warmup for wrestling. When asked how they came up with their team’s name they all laughed and explained they got it from the 2004 comedy “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.” Showing a sense of humor, and good attitude, the team also displays dedication, and discipline leaving no doubt they’re here to make their mark
