The fifth ranked NIC Women’s basketball team (7-4, 17-6) beat second ranked Wenatchee Valley (9-2, 20-4) 73-68 last Wednesday night.

The game was tight until mid-way through the second quarter when the Cards took a 21-21 tie, and erupted on both ends of the court to turn it into a 37-25 lead to end the half.

Leading the way offensively for the Cards was Alex Carlton with 21 points including 5-9 from beyond the arc, and she continues to lead the NWAC in 3 point percentage.

Keara Simpson poured in her seventh double-double of the season scoring 13 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Due to inclement weather and travel conditions, many NWAC games over the weekend were postponed, including NIC’s game at Walla Walla scheduled for Saturday Feb. 9.

“We thought we slipped by with a brief winter,” Head coach Chris Carlson said. “It’s getting kind of wild right now with some make-up games, and other games are getting cancelled, so it should be a wild finish in the east.”

The last home game will be held at Christianson Gymnasium on Feb. 20 at 5:30 pm with the men’s game following at 7:30 pm.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
