Men’s basketball blows out Wenatchee Valley

The second-ranked North Idaho men’s basketball team defeated seventh-ranked Wenatchee Valley 89-71 at home Wednesday night.

Christian Guess has only played meaningful minutes in three games this season but he has made the most the most of his playing time averaging 18.3 points-per-game over his last three games.

The first half was tightly contested despite an early nine point lead by NIC that Wenatchee Valley managed to come back from to tie the game with three minutes left in the half.

The Cards only trailed for a total of 49 seconds of game-time in the victory. Wenatchee Valley managed to hang around until about halfway through the second half when NIC jumped out to an overwhelming 25 point lead to put the game out of reach.

Leading the way for the Cards was Christian Guess, who poured in 17 points on eight of nine shooting in his first start on the season. Yusuf Mohamed had 13 points and two huge blocks, and James Carlson had 11 points and led the team in rebounds with nine.

Up next for the Cards (4-0, 16-1) is a home game against Blue Mountain (0-4, 4-13) Saturday Jan 18 at 4 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
