Softball sweeps doubleheader against Walla Walla

NIC softball came out on top in two games over Walla Walla Tuesday afternoon, winning 14-12 and 12-9.

In the first game NIC jumped out 6-2 lead in the first, but a six-run fourth inning by Walla Walla had the Cards down 7-8. NIC immediately responded with six runs of their own in their half of the fourth inning to go up 13-8.

Audrey Walker fields a ground ball and rockets a throw to first base. The shortstop is a first-year student at NIC out of Redmond, Washington.

NIC managed to take a 14-8 lead into the seventh inning and held on to win despite a furious two-out four-run rally comeback attempt by Walla Walla that found the Cards pulling out the 14-12 victory with the tying run at the plate.

In the second game, the Cards found themselves down 1-5 in the bottom of the fourth, but added two runs and then exploded with an eight-run fifth inning to go up 11-5.

The Cards tacked on an insurance run and Walla Walla put up four more runs, which resulted in the 12-9 Cards victory.

The Cards return to action in a doubleheader against Treasure Valley Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Field. Treasure Valley is currently 3-7 on the season and went 1-3 against Walla Walla.

Stats for the game were unavailable at the time of writing. A full replay of the broadcast can be viewed on the NIC Athletics YouTube page.

Quick Observation

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
