Women’s soccer falls to Spokane

NIC women’s soccer played their first game of the season Saturday, but couldn’t find the back of the net in their 3-0 loss to Spokane.

Halley Marschall looks upfield in NIC’s 3-0 to Spokane. The loss puts NIC’s record against Spokane at 0-10-3 since 2014.

The Cards fell behind early due to a goal by Lizzy Gonzalez in the ninth minute and NIC just couldn’t generate enough opportunities to climb back into the game.

Spokane outshot NIC 18-10 while Spokane had 11 shots on goal compared to NIC’s four. Hailee Mize came up with seven saves in the contest.

It was the first game of the year for NIC women’s soccer, whose season usually starts in August but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cards play at Walla Walla on Wednesday, April 14 at 2 p.m. before returning home to play Blue Mountain Saturday, April 17 at noon.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
