Fashion Week Kicks Off At NIC

Kicking off Fashion Week, a fashion show was held on NIC’s campus.

On the field in front of the Rec Center, Kaity Windmyer; Co-owner of Marmalade, started off her two-part fashion show with a free community event. The show brought in a large crowd of all ages.

The fashion show had eight designers, four of which are local: Marmalade underground, Gene Made, Madness & Co., and Gokee.Son. Along with some famous brands, such as Juicy Couture and others.

Windmyer said that she knew she wanted to host a free community show in Coeur d' Alene. Windmyer explained that she had some pushback from the city to find a location for her show; so she contacted Jay from NIC's Event Services, and he was more than willing to help her out. When Windmyer was asked about what inspired the content of her shows, she said, "My mom...." She explained that her mother brought her up in a fashion rich environment that started her a path to do something that she loved. Thus, it was easy for Windmyer to say her mom inspired her to do this show.

Windmyer gave some advice to students looking into fashion; who don't know where to start. She said, " Get involved. There are many shops in downtown Coeur d' Alene that are looking for help, [this is] creating many great opportunities to learn and make connections."
