Get Your Prerequisites Done First

Why would you want to get your prerequisites done first? There are a couple of reasons why.

First, it’s convenient. The prerequisites are the classes that are the most broad, and they are meant to be a foundation for any of the majors which you choose. For the most part, they are easier than your specific classes for whatever major you have chosen.

Second, it’s a lot easier for when you eventually decide to switch majors. I’m not saying it will happen for every student, but the average student switches majors three times. That’s a lot of switching. I’ve done it myself and I can say, getting my prerequisites done first was a big relief. If you get your prerequisites out of the way first, you won’t have as much of an issue later down the road. In my instance, I had most of mine done in my first year. At the end of my first year, I had decided to switch majors, and it wasn’t much of a problem. Not only because I already had the basic foundation, but because I didn’t really take any unnecessary classes for my new major.

Lastly, as some teachers well know, you won’t be scrambling toward the end of getting your degree. If you waited until, let’s say, the last semester to get some of your prerequisites done, you’re probably going to be more stressed than if you already had them done. Students scramble at the last moment to get these done sometimes. If you get them done earlier, less stress and less worry for the future.

So please, to save yourself time and stress, get those prerequisites done early. You have been warned.
