Tie-dye Welcome Party

ASNIC Events Board coordinated a tie-dye party for student entertainment during the Week of Welcome at the North Idaho College Sunspot, a clear patch of grass along the beaches of Coeur d’Alene Lake, Wednesday afternoon. The event was planned in accordance with the Week of Welcome at NIC, the first week of every fall semester which serves as an introduction for new and returning students to campus life.

According to Dodi Stilkey, who helped ASNIC organize and host the event, the board wanted a space where students could interact on their will around an engaging activity.

Attending students were offered an option between a pillowcase or tote bag to dye, which were given out by Tatum Bryan,  member of the Events Board.

Former ASNIC senator, Andrew Lagrow, showcasing his masterpiece.

“I really believe in having a healthy community,” said Bryan, the only ASNIC Event Board member over the summer months. “I think students should have a balance between work or stress and enjoying themselves. Having a good time and getting to know people, I believe in that.”

Eryn Pierce, ASNIC senator, instructed the tie-dying process as follows:

ASNIC senator Eryn Pierce instructed how to create the perfect tie-dye spiral.

Step 1: Soak fabric in water

Step 2: Bundle fabric with rubber-bands in the style of a bulls-eye, spiral, or ditch the rubber-bands and simply spatter.

Step 3: Let fabric sit for at least 24 hours, then wash alone in washing machine or rinse thoroughly.

The final competition of the day: limbo.

The beach party also included free food, from salads to cookies to burgers, relay races, and, in the end, a limbo competition.
