This week is election week at NIC!

The Associated Students of North Idaho College (ASNIC) student government is holding elections this week.

Five candidates are vying for three open senator positions in ASNIC. These students are Aleksandra Lowley, Erica Rios, Joe Eberharter, Luis Rios, and Taylynn Anderson. Their profiles can be viewed on the ASNIC site.

Polls open Monday at 7:00 a.m. and close Friday at 2:30 p.m. All full-time, dual-credit and part-time students can log in at http://www.nic.edu/vote to vote.

ASNIC’s role is to work toward making the campus a better place for students. Its mission statement is to “amplify student voices to advocate and create change for an enhanced student experience by serving as a bridge between students, administration, and our community.”

Dodi Stilkey, director of student involvement, helped describe the organization and purpose of the government. The president, vice president and eight senators work toward improving NIC by attending weekly and monthly meetings and participating on campus committees.  Each position is held for one academic year.

“It is a great opportunity to learn and practice leadership,” Stilkey said.

Government members participate in leadership seminars, budgeting, projecting development to list just a few of the tasks members are involved in.
