Women’s Soccer finishes strong

The Women’s Soccer team finished strong on Saturday, scoring 1 goal during their game.  Despite Walla Walla giving it their all, they were simply unable to best our girls, who put up their best defense and offense Saturday, which was also our final normal game of the season.  NIC hosted Walla Walla on our soccer field, which began at Noon on Saturday.  The weather was intermittent, with a few snowflakes even choosing to make an appearance.

The girls started strong and finished strong.  Quite a few minor injuries occurred during the game, which saw several players being taken out and replaced.  This happened on both teams.  Despite claims of faking injuries, our reporter saw only one fall that looked suspiciously like a dive – which was taken by Walla Walla.  The girls were a brick wall that Walla Walla just couldn’t penetrate.  Running across the field to catch up to the ball that was frequently kicked to the sidelines by Walla Walla, our girls were well exhausted by the activity, but held strong against their forceful opposition.  Thinking they would be able to penetrate our defensive wall, Walla Walla took several attempts at scoring, yet all of them were blocked by our wonderful goalies Kaycee Chavez and Emily Ray.

Teresa Ledezma about to score the winning goal.

The first and only goal of the game was scored by NIC’s Teresa Ledezma, which occurred a quarter of the way into the game.  Upon the blow of the whistle at past the 90 minute mark (the game ran long due to a couple different 1 minute penalties), all the players cheered for their victory!  The last game of the season went off without a hitch, and earned NIC a spot in women’s soccer history.
