Students Unalarmed by Fire Drill

Students living in the dorms flocked to the safety of the soccer fields Wednesday afternoon as the fire alarm blared across campus. Although they were not informed it was a drill, students seemed unconcerned and patiently waited to return to the dorms.

“We had a drill the first week of school in the fall, and that’s probably all that this is.”  One student speculated.

This seemed to be the general consensus amongst the students.  Many seemed unperturbed as they chatted or simply stared down at their phones until the silence of the alarm several minutes later.

Paula Czirr, manager of the residence hall, explained, “Yes, it was a planned drill. We do one per semester, within the first ten days. The students are not informed of the drill, as they need to learn how to react in case it is a real fire.”
