NIC Instructor Placed on Leave after Social Media Post

   An NIC instructor was placed on an administrative leave on Saturday after making a social media post following the shooting of Charlie Kirk, a prominent American conservative activist and co-founder for Turning Point USA, last Wednesday.

   In a statement made by NIC President Nick Swayne on Friday he shared the school’s sympathies and announced that an investigation of the allegations in regard to the post was being conducted.

   “At North Idaho College, we remain committed to fostering an environment where ideas can be shared openly, safely, and respectfully—a cornerstone of both education and democracy. The First Amendment protects the right to speak, but it does not shield anyone from the consequences of how that speech impacts others.”

     Neither the name of the NIC instructor nor the exact contents of the post have been shared publicly.

   An Executive Session of the NIC Board has been called for today at 5 p.m. in the Driftwood Bay Room of the Student Union Building, which will not be open to the public.  The sole agenda listed on the meeting is “Complaint Discussion: Impact of Recent Social Media Posting on College Campus.”
