Mike Super Magic Comes to NIC

“I am the Nintendo Wii of Magic because my magic is interactive,” Mike Super, Magic and Illusion said. Mike Super performed in the S.U.B at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29.

“Well, really, I have no life,” Mike Super said. Right before the show began, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey was blaring through the speakers as the crowd continued to grow until a few people did not have a seat.

After the show, Brandon, 22, a physical education major proclaimed, “This show is beyond what I’ve seen.”

“Like I was just really confused… I don’t know how he did it,” said Lindsey, 15, a Coeur d’Alene high school student, after she was personally involved in the rope act of the magic show.

Mike Super said, “In kindergarten when my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, I said that I wanted to be a magician and she told me that it wasn’t a real career.”

He explained that while his mom was alive, she always supported him and was angry with his teacher for discouraging him.

He shared another story of his childhood when one night when he asked his mother what she would want for Christmas if she could have anything. She was enthralled that he even asked and answered that snow would be the perfect gift. The following morning it snowed, and he saw how happy it made his mother and decided that every day of the year he would try to make it “snow” using his own magic.

His first attempt involved ripping a paper napkin into little tiny bits and throwing it into the air. For the closing act of the show, demonstrating his progression with the trick, Mike Super made it “snow” in honor of his mother for always believing in him.

Her encouragement may have been what helped Mike Super become as successful in his career as he is today. Mike Super won the Merlin Award, has his own television show on ABC, was on the Ellen Show and is now working towards creating a new Genus World Record.
