Brief: College receives grant to build ramp for disabled

The college has received a grant for $35,000 for the construction of a new ramp to the beach.

The grant was awarded by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to make the sidewalk and gangway to the docks ADA compliant.

“Up to this point we have never been ADA compliant and assisted those individuals that needed that type of assistance to be able to get down to and enjoy the beach,” President Joe Dunlap said.

Building code differences between the county and city are a notable challenge for construction, and the project will be affected by the beach annexation.
