Another Win for Men’s Soccer

Cardinal men’s soccer team won 4-1 against Chemeketa CC in an aggressive game on Friday evening.

The teams battled it out in the first 20 minutes of the game, and the Card’s offense kept the majority of the playing on Chemeketa’s side. The first goal was scored when the Storm’s goalie went down after blocking a shot, and Adam Talley passed the ball to Hamidou Kante, number 22, who put it in.

Shortly after, Chemeketa player Oscar Contreras powerfully shot from almost half field and it snuck into the left side of the net, tying the game.

Taylor Haman finally put NIC back in the lead after two of his teammates made unsuccessful attempts and he was there to put the ball in.

Kyle Bender, forward number 21, headed the ball in when Matt Howard put a corner kick to the goal, and Howard made the last goal in the sixty-seventh minute.

A yellow card was called against Storm player Armando Guevara in the first minutes of the game for language. Several times throughout the game aggression between the players was apparent.

Brady Ulen was given an unsporting behavior yellow card after confrontation with the goalkeeper resulted in obvious tension.

The fast paced game kept all four goalies of the game on their toes, both NIC and Chemeketa used a sub and all four blocked an average of about 7 shots.

“Tonight’s game was a fantastic game,” Said Kante, who scored the first goal of the game and his first collegiate goal in one, “The team deserved to win but the other team played hard too, they did their best but in the end the best will win.”
