NIC women’s soccer falls just short against Spokane

NIC women’s soccer lost to Spokane 2-1 on Saturday.

NIC fell behind by way of an offensive onslaught by Spokane that included being out-shot 10-2 in the first 57 minutes. The Cards had a few chances to tie the game, but fell short in the end.

NIC and Spokane are currently outside of the playoff picture for the East Region. NIC has not missed the playoffs since joining the NWAC in 2016 while Spokane has not missed the playoffs since 2008.

NIC’s lone goal came from Riley Klauss in the 58th minute to cut the Spokane lead to one. Ultimately NIC could not find the back of the net despite taking four more shots, including a heart-breaking ball by Cidney Bauwens that bounced off the crossbar.

The match was very chippy, and resulted in a fight between NIC’s Autumn Stewart and Spokane’s Emma Knudson, both received red cards for their actions, and a fan was ejected for yelling at the referee after the altercation. NIC’s Halley Marschall also received a red card for a separate incident.

Up next for the Cards (3-3-1, 5-4-3) is a match against Treasure Valley (2-5, 4-6-1) Friday Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
