Spill the Beans: Calypsos Coffee Roasters

Spill the Beans series- highlighting coffee shops near North Idaho College campus.

Local artwork and a wide assortment of varies table sets and couches add a personalized flair to the colorful interior. Located 0.9 miles away from campus, the first coffee roaster in CDA offers plenty of lounging room for study days.

“It’s a very diverse crowd,” said employee Ezra Dowling, a NIC student. 

Along with their colorful array of mismatched furniture, Calypsos Coffee Roasters displays paintings and photographs offered for sale by local artists. They also publish their own little art magazine, “The Calypsonian.”

For entertainment, the shop hosts open mic night every Monday. Signups start at 5:30 p.m. and the show opens at 6 p.m. They also offer occasional live entertainment like their upcoming event, Marbin at Calypsos, a jazz-fusion band performance. If you’re looking to host a meeting, Calypsos also offers a “smart room” for rent by the hour.

Calypsos offers sandwiches, baked goods, and ice cream along with their drink menu. They are most famous for their Lake Shore Drive, a honey, lavender, and oat milk latte that is now making its way from the seasonal menu to favorites because of its popularity.

The shop also offers Wi-Fi and a 10 percent discount for NIC students. You can look them up for hours on their website, and follow them on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for information on events and seasonal specials.
