NIC men’s soccer routs Vandals’ club team

The North Idaho College men’s soccer team beat the University of Idaho club team 6-2 Sept. 21 at NIC.

NIC head coach Ken Thompson said the game plan today was to “kick the ball around and make them chase,” and that’s exactly what the Cardinals did.

With a 4-0 lead after the first half, the Cardinals were playing just how they wanted to.

“We had a hard week of practice and I think it kind of set the tone,” said NIC’s Adam Talley, who had just recovered from a concussion two weeks back. Working through his injury, he definitely set the tone by scoring two goals and using his defensive skills to counter Idaho’s offensive moves.

Rodger Bucknor led the Cardinal scoring attack, scoring the team’s first goal.

“Today was our first game,” Idaho’s coach and player Charles Redline said. “We had our first practice last week, so it was good to see the potential of our players.” He noted that most players were ex-college students and is excited to see that new talent he has to work with this year. “We were hoping to get more shots off and as we progress, we are hoping to get more and more,” Redline said. He said that as the season moves on, the young forwards they acquired will get more experience and practice on the field.
