Men’s soccer ends up with draw against Blue Mountain

NIC men’s soccer came up with a scrappy 0-0 draw against Blue Mountain Saturday afternoon.

Isaiah Damschen comes up with a jumping save to keep the match tied 0-0. NIC and Blue Mountain ended in a 1-1 draw in their previous match-up last month.

The match was physical and chippy between the two teams, and as a result the game ended with a total of 41 fouls.

One bizarre sequence involved an altercation between both teams including Blue Mountain’s goalie attacking an NIC forward from behind during a scuffle with another player. Tempers flared on both sides and shoving occurred all around, but no red or yellow cards were given.

Opportunities to score were present for both teams, but no one managed to find the back of the net. The Cards out-shot Blue Mountain 7-4, and goalie Isaiah Damschen came up with two saves in the contest.

Wenatchee Valley’s match Saturday against Walla Walla also ended in a draw, so NIC remains one point out of the third and final playoff spot.

Up next for the Cards (3-3-2, 5-5-3) is a battle at Wenatchee Valley Saturday Oct. 19 at 2:15 p.m. The Cards then return home to play Columbia Basin (5-1-1, 7-3-2) Wednesday Oct. 23 at 3:15 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
