Women’s soccer easily defeats Blue Mountain

NIC women’s soccer had no problem handling Blue Mountain in their 2-0 victory Saturday.

Demi Randall battles a Blue Mountain player for possession. NIC’s 2-0 victory was the fewest amount of goals scored in school history against Blue Mountain. In their eight matches against Blue Mountain, the Cards have scored an average of 6.75 goals per game, and have outscored the Timberwolves 54-2.

NIC controlled the ball for most of the game, and as a result the match was mostly played in Blue Mountain territory. NIC put up 10 total shots in the game, and limited Blue Mountain to just three.

Leading the way for the Cards was Sophia Schnepf with a goal late in the first half, followed by a goal by Halley Marschall early in the second half.

The match was relatively uneventful for goalie Hailee Mize, who had two saves in the contest.

The victory improves the Cards all time record against Blue Mountain to 8-0, and keeps the Cards in tight contention with for the third and final playoff spot with five games left on the season. The Cards have a game against both teams ranked ahead of them, so they control their own destiny.

Up next for the Cards (5-3-1, 7-4-3) is an important match at Yakima Valley (5-2-2, 9-3-2) Wednesday Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. Yakima Valley defeated the Cards in their previous meeting 3-1. The Cards then play at Wenatchee Valley (0-8-1, 2-9-1) Saturday, Oct. 19 before returning home and playing Columbia Basin (6-1-2, 12-1-2) in their final home match of the season Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.

Just a dumb guy that enjoys sports. I'm pretty hard to miss with my long hair and New York Giants beanie, and you can normally spot me at most NIC home games with a befuddled look and a large camera pressed up against my face. If you happen to spot me don't be afraid to say hello. I'm usually down to talk about NIC athletics or sports in general. Wear a mask, please. I want sports back.
