NIC men’s soccer takes down Northwest College

The North Idaho College men’s soccer team defeated Northwest College (Powell, Wyo.) 2-1 Sunday in the final game of the Cardinal Classic at NIC.

Northwest headed into the half winning 1-0 after Gage Woodward scored a goal in the 43rd minute.

The Trappers were down a man for most of the game after one of their players received a red card in the 17th minute.

The Cardinals responded with a goal by Christian Botuli to tie the game. NIC also played with a smaller bench due to Rodger Bucknor and Jake Kraut sitting out the game because of injury.

The Cardinals took the lead in the 67th minute after Shane Stanley set Adam Talley up for a goal.

“We’ve struggled with our warm up and we’ve kind of started games slow,” NIC head coach Ken Thompson said. “Once we get going, we’re pretty tough.”

NIC beat Northwest College 3-2 August 25.

The Cardinals (3-0-1) travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., to play Iowa Lakes Community College Saturday and Laramie County Community College Sunday.
